My name is Jon Prial. In August, 2010 I retired from IBM after working there over 32 years. I was a manager for close to 25 years and had been an executive over half of those years. Before I left IBM, I also represented Software Group's entire population as one of the co-chairs of IBM's Work-Life Integration Council. It was one of the global diversity councils that IBM had put in place to support its business and its people.
I've found my greatest satisfaction as a manager in helping people grow their careers, especially how that gets done in context of the challenges outside of work. I spend a lot of time each week mentoring people, both inside and outside of IBM.
My retirement was my choice (along with lots of dialog with my wife). Ever since we returned from visiting our son in Senegal (he was with the U.S. Peace Corps), we have a totally different view of what we need vs. what we want. So, I retired and I am spending time on many different projects - - all of which I am enjoying. Since everything is new, one of my biggest challenge is prioritization and finding the time to blog!
